The Gifts of a Leadership Coach

It’s hard to believe that just a couple of years ago I really didn’t understand the role of a leadership coach. Sure, I had heard of business coaches, life coaches, mentors, counselors, and pastors, but they all had their compartments in my brain. Was becoming a leadership coach just a new way to add more letters to the end of your signature line?! Are leadership coaches (specifically in the faith world) vital in a world that already has multiple other types of coaches? I believe so!

A couple of years ago I was introduced to a leadership coach (if you missed that story, you can read it here), and it has changed the trajectory of my work, goals and dreams. I had been working in finance and marketing for a church and loved digging deep to make things more efficient in both areas so that staff and volunteers could be more effective in ministry. After working with and for the coach, I soon came to realize that my administrative skills were my ministry. She used her coaching skills to fill me with hope and led me to realize that there is a place for my work that fuels the work of others. There is a place for all of us at the table, and we need to lean into each other’s strengths so that the fruit of our combined work produces the most good for His Kingdom.

This is why I love working with leadership coaches and non-profit leaders who have a big vision. I thrive on setting up and streamlining their business foundations so they can focus on using their gifts to support others. Many leadership coaches are current or former pastors who have had the support of the church staff or volunteers to run the day-to-day operations. They have not had to handle “fun things” like determining web hosting companies or determining who needs a 1099. These coaches need a trusted partner in business operations to walk alongside them as they coach others. This is why I created Anchored Results. I want to provide encouragement, support, and best practices through my work for as many days as the Lord allows me to remain on His beautiful Earth. I know God has placed the right people at the right time in my life and I want to glorify Him by using the gifts he has given me so that others can use the gifts He gave them. “According to the grace given to us, we have different gifts.” (Romans 12:6 CSB)

I hope you can see why I love working with leadership coaches, and I think it’s important to include why coaches and leaders have enjoyed working with me. There are a few comments shared on my about page, and I’d like to share one more quote from my leader friend, Paul, that I feel sums up how I view my work: “Infrastructure is grace.” Setting up intentional systems and the practice of using them allows us to lead others with grace. And let us rejoice that our belief in Jesus Christ provides us with unending grace!
